Hollywood Studios 2020 Trip Recap
We still have SO MUCH to share about our recent trip to Walt Disney World. It always amazes us that no matter how many times we visit “The World” we have new memories and experiences.
Also, now that our kids are older, it surprises us that they still have an appreciation for Walt himself, the parks and the underlying message that we try to convey “slow down to take in the little things” Could they actually finally be listening to us?! Even our active youngest has been reminding us of this more and more lately.
Beginning with Hollywood Studios:
- We did not wake up in time for Rise of the Resistance: Unfortunately after being at Animal Kingdom from open to close, it really wore on everyone. That and the fact that on our Hollywood Studios day Florida decided to give us our New England weather. It was FREEZING, windy and raining sideways.
It’s one thing for it to be raining and a whole other if it’s raining, freezing and 30 mile an hour winds
- Making the best of it, my (Connie’s) mood officially changed when we scored a last-minute reservation at the SCI-FI DINE in Theater restaurant
- Smugglers Run is a very immersive attraction. Think Star Tours times 10. Since we are a family of five we always had one single rider with us (it seats 6) but it did not feel super awkward.
Sci-Fi Dine-in Theater bullet point review:
- Scored reservations at the last minute. Keep checking the app!
- Food was JUST O.K but it is more about the experience
- Something about the dim lighting makes everyone so calm
- Dining in the car behind the kids is magical after a LONG day together LOL
- Cool to see Walt Disney on the screen
Our day off- We decided to leave AKL and stay off property. While we have had good experiences with this in the past, we realized that resort hopping is not our thing. I never felt relaxed OR on vacation after leaving the lodge.
Riding Disney Skyliner (aka Gondolas) for the first time: NO NEED TO SNEAK The Joffrey’s on this one. It is encouraged. The only thing a castmember told me was that no alcoholic drinks were allowed.
Did not get to ride the hot air balloon: it was too windy for it to go up and even later on the week when there was less wind, we saw it flying at a slight angle. NO THANKS!
Things we learned:
- If you lose an item be sure to email wdw right away with as many details as you can remember. They will send you frequent updates.
- The weather in February can go from warm, sunny 80’s to FREEZING cold, rainy and windy. Be prepared and don’t cheap out when packing before your trip or you will end up paying double in the parks for a hat etc. We already knew this tip and have shared on the show in the past but didn’t take our own advice. We really wanted to pack light for our trip to save money on our baggage fees. Whoops.
- Connie is grouchy in bad weather.
- Blue milk isn’t our favorite but probably tastes better when it’s warm out
- Getting on Rise of Resistance is a whole process. Be prepared or just be OK with not riding until your next visit. There are plenty of things to do at Hollywood Studios.
- The Skyliner is such a great addition to Walt Disney World. It’s a smooth ride and very efficient. However, we don’t think we would do well if we were riding with others since they are VERY SMALL
