5 Disney & Universal Updates You Need to Know: Are We In or Out?
If you’re a Disney or Universal fan, you’re going to love today’s post. On the latest episode of Unlocking the Magic, we broke down some major updates from both Disney and Universal parks, sharing our thoughts on what’s worth getting excited about and what might not live up to the hype. Are we in or out on these changes? Let’s dive in!
No More Virtual Queue at Tron Lightcycle Run
Big news from Magic Kingdom! Disney announced that Tron Lightcycle Run will no longer require a virtual queue starting September 9, 2024. As frequent park-goers, we’ve had our ups and downs with virtual queues. While Connie enjoyed the virtual queue system because it allowed guests to enjoy other attractions without standing in line, Bruce wasn’t a fan. The hassle of waking up early to snag a spot added stress to his vacation. Now, Tron will shift to a traditional standby line.
Our Verdict:
- Connie: IN – Virtual queues gave flexibility to enjoy the park!
- Bruce: OUT – Give me the simplicity of a regular standby line!
Cosmic Rewind: The Future of Disney’s Hottest Ride
There’s been some chatter about Disney possibly doing away with the virtual queue for Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. As one of the most popular new rides, the demand is high, and Disney has been surveying guests about their experience. Whether or not the virtual queue system will change remains a mystery, but we’re keeping an eye on it!
Our Verdict:
- Both of us are IN on the ride, but mixed about the virtual queue. We love Cosmic Rewind, but if it’s a long line, Bruce might just skip it.
Villains Land Coming to Magic Kingdom
Could there finally be a Villains Land coming to Disney World? Rumors from D23 have sparked excitement, and we couldn’t be more intrigued. A darker, more thrilling area dedicated to Disney’s famous villains would be an amazing way to draw in older fans, and we’re hoping it has the same spooky vibe as Disneyland’s classic Snow White attraction.
Our Verdict:
- Connie: IN – I love anything with Disney villains!
- Bruce: IN – Give me a darker, more mature land with immersive theming!
Universal News: Beetlejuice 2 Review
We checked out Beetlejuice 2 on opening night, expecting the same energy as past Universal Halloween Horror Nights or Haunted Mansion. To our surprise, the theater was nearly empty. The plot continues the haunting antics of Beetlejuice, but does it live up to the original? Not quite. The visuals are great, but it lacks the magic of the first movie.
Our Verdict:
- Connie: IN – I’d give it another chance, maybe it will grow on me.
- Bruce: OUT – It’s a one-and-done for me. I’ll wait until it hits streaming.
Disney’s Destiny Cruise Ship: A New Era of Themed Cruising
Set to debut in November 2025, Disney’s newest cruise ship, Disney Destiny, is already making waves with its incredible theming. From a Lion King dining experience to a Doctor Strange Sanctum, this ship is packed with immersive entertainment for fans of all ages. Pirates will gather at the new Cask and Cannon pub, while Cruella De Vil gets her own Wickedly Chic piano lounge. We’re particularly excited about the staterooms, which will feature custom artwork inspired by Disney’s most iconic stories.
Our Verdict:
- Both of us are IN – Disney always nails its cruise line theming, and this one sounds next level. Plus, who wouldn’t want to hang out in a pirate pub?
