Our favorite Movies to get psyched about going Walt Disney World
Ok, ok, so obviously you are already pretty psyched for your upcoming Walt Disney World vacation. But we believe the fun really begins at home with planning and getting ready (yes, packing can be fun ha!). We even have a countdown calendar embedded in our kitchen lol!
To get even more pumped about visiting the mouse, we set aside a family movie night each weekend before our trip. This is not only a great way to enjoy family time but it gets us all even more excited and connected with Walt Disney World.
Below our are the top picks for our family. As with any Disney film, be sure to keep an eye out for any hidden Mickeys! Also, let us know what makes your Disney film must see list 🙂
Snow White
The Walt Disney Classic film was officially released waaay back in 1937 when Hollywood Glitz and Glamour was at it’s prime. This film was revolutionary for it’s time and many were not too thrilled with the idea. Most people did not believe an audience would sit through a feature length animated film. Walt ignored the critics and pressed on making this beautiful film.
This movie was actually the first for Disney to try out movies based on attractions! Although there is no connection with the Twilight Zone in the film, this gives you an in depth connection to the Tower of Terror.
Believe it or not, most of the exterior and interior filming actually took place at the popular attraction inside Hollywood Studios the then MGM Studios (source imdb). How cool is that?!
The Haunted Mansion in the Magic Kingdom is one of our favorite attractions so watching this film beforehand gets us totally immersed in the story ahead of time. This spooky yet light hearted movie features the hilarious Eddy Murphy.
“Several references to the Disney theme-park ride include: the singing busts – the breathing door (even the doorknob is the same) – Madame Leota (and the spectral instruments) – the busts that follow Jim – the ghostly carriage (a prop outside the ride) – the old man and the dog in the cemetery – Master Gracy’s hanging – the ghostly ballroom dancers. – the Raven seen throughout the movie – the hitchhiking ghosts – the hangman – the eyes in some of the walls – morphing pictures in the hallway. – several lines throughout the movie that are also used in the ride’s narration, such as: “Welcome, foolish mortals”, “Final arrangements have been made”, “There’s always my way” – the floating candelabra in the credits – the bride’s dress in the attic – the screeching cat sound effect in graveyard scene – the skeleton’s hands that start to open coffin in the mausoleum – the knights in the hallway attacking Jim – the door knockers heard rapping in the bedroom hallway – the pipe-organ in the ballroom – the clock strikes 13 during the prologue” -Source, IMDB
This newer Disney Film has a great message and a lesson in optimism of the future just like Walt Disney himself believed, “imagine a place where anything is possible”, this film has touched the core of my heart. While producing the story, the writers were influenced by Walt Disney, and his vision of Epcot (Experimental Prototype Community Of Tommorrow). I love the connection and can’t get enough of watching this movie.
Originally called 1952, the film was later named Tommorowland. The movie feels a little slow in the beginning but trust me, it gets super interesting.
Pirates of the Caribbean -The Curse of the Black Pearl
The absolute must see for any family and is likely that it is already on your bucket list. We love the spookiness of the first film the most but feel free to watch all four and soon 5!
Toy Story
This adorable movie entertains the whole family and is definitely a must see. Watching them all gets us so excited for the future of Hollywood Studios. We know Toy Story Land is going to be so fun.
Star Wars
The force is strong with those that see this movie before Disney World.
Indiana Jones Series
These films bring me back to my childhood. I love being able to share with my own children. However Bruce has yet to make it through the entire second movie loo!
Hoping that the attraction stays in Hollywood Studios..
Honorable Mentions:
The Lion King
AKUNA MATATA!!!!
Walt Disney- The Man Behind The Myth
