Unlocking Big Thunder Mountain
Get ready to hear all about the wildest ride in the wilderness! That’s right, on this episode of Unlocking The Magic, we grab the keys and head over to Frontierland to speed through a haunted gold mine aboard one of the most thrilling attractions in Disney, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!
Join us as we “unlock” the history of creating the attraction and how the concept began, the differences between Disneyland’s version and Walt Disney World, fun facts (that even we didn’t know about until today) as well as some of our best tips on riding.
Although Walt Disney did not actually conceive the Big Thunder we have today, his love for trains and the old west brings his spirit throughout the attraction. In fact, from 1956-1959 in Disneyland, The Rainbow Caverns Mine Train was a train tour through the Old West. Later, from 1960-1977, the attraction became Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland. To honor Walt, some of the set prices from the original mining town of Rainbow Ridge were saved and added to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!
