Why the Upside Down Is Stuck in 1983

Some fans believe that the reason the Upside Down is stuck in 1983 is because that’s when Will Byers first entered the parallel dimension. It’s possible that Will is somehow connected to the Upside Down and his presence is keeping it locked in that year.

It’s also worth noting that a lot of the major events in Stranger Things have taken place in 1983. Will first disappeared in that year, and it was also the year that Eleven closed the gate to the Upside Down. Plus, the Battle of Starcourt Mall took place in that year as well. So it definitely seems like there’s something significant about 1983 in the Stranger Things universe.
